Anaerobic infection in chronic maxillary sinusitis.
RS Greval, S Khurana, R Shobha, SK Sharma
August 1993, 47(8):201-3
PMID
:8270303
1) Ten per cent of cases of chronic maxillary sinusitis in a series of 50 cases treated in the ENT department of Dayanand Medical College, Ludhiana, were caused by anaerobic infection. 2) The causative anaerobic micro-organisms encountered were Peptostreptococcus and Clostridium species. 3) Treatment should, therefore, include metronidazole, especially in those cases refractory to conventional antibiotic therapy.

LDH-x in azoospermia : a new diagnostic alternative to vasography and testicular biopsy.
PK Verma, JN Singh, M Quadros
August 1993, 47(8):204-7
PMID
:8270304
Activities of different isozymes of lactate dehydrogenase were studied in semen samples from fertile, and different groups of infertile men. No isozyme except the sperm specific LDH-x or C4 showed any difference in activity with changes in sperm density. Activity of LDH-x exhibited a trend positive to changes in sperm density and became absent in obstructive and vasectomized azoospermia. Among other types of azoospermia, the activity became very high in maturation arrest but very low in patients with testicular biopsy showing germ cell aplasia, such as in SCOS and ghostlike tubules. Diagnostic usefulness of the estimation of LDH-x activity in semen is discussed.

Circanual variation of sperm count and motility in men.
S Sood, R Reghunandanan, U Singh, V Reghunandanan, PI Singh
August 1993, 47(8):197-200
PMID
:8270302
Seasonal variation in rhythmicity of spermatogenesis might be due to external temperature fluctuation which could partially be responsible for decreased sperm counts in summer. Other factor like exposure to light might contribute for the reduction in sperm counts. These facts should be taken into account before diagnosing male fertility.
